Our Research

Welcome to CSEOLab

The overarching aim of the CSEOlab is to promote child wellbeing by studying children's social and emotional outcomes (SEO) in the context of families and schools and by working collaboratively with caregivers, researchers and policy makers to find ways to support them.

Our Research

Our Research

In the family context we look closely at caregiver-child relationships, parenting practices and the application of discipline, caregiver involvement in learning activities, and caregiver social and emotional wellbeing. We have expertise in administering and scoring a range of parent-child relationship measures including the Manchester Child Attachment Story Task (MCAST), children's family drawings and the Berkeley Puppet Interview (BPI).

In the school setting, we are interested in finding out more about how we can support pupil SEO. We strongly rely on the views and experience of frontline professionals to guide our work. So, we work in collaboration with colleagues with rich experience in teaching and in teacher- training to jointly identify aspects of teacher practice that can enhance pupil SEO.

We have expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methods and the evaluation of interventions programmes using experimental methods including randomised controlled trials.
